Surrendering a Cat or Kitten

To surrender a cat or kitten for placement in our shelter, a donation is required for cats and kittens, including found cats/strays, to cover their cost while living at the shelter, as we are a private, no-kill shelter. Our donations are less than $8 per week of the estimated time they will spend in our facilities. Since older cats are usually less adoptable and could spend their life in our retirement program and need regular veterinary care, the donation cost rises with age. The placement donation is due at the time of surrender. All placement donations are assessed based on medical records of the cats and may be changed at the board’s discretion.

Unfortunately, due to our size and financial position, cats, including strays, cannot be placed for less than the required donations. We are unable to take in any feral cats but may be able to help you find a rescue that can help. We consider feral cats to be any cat that you cannot touch. We also encourage outdoor living for cats that can no longer live inside your home. We can help guide you in this transition and there are numerous internet resources for a happy and safe environment outdoors. Try www.woodgreen.org.uk.

Limited placement is available at this time. We are currently at capacity due to our current number of cats. Intakes will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

  • Kitten (< 7 months) rescue placement fees vary, starting at $200 and require spay of mother cat. Please note bottle babies may have additional costs. (Full)

  • Young cats 7 months old to 2 years old: surrender requires a minimum donation of $400. (Full)

  • Cats 2 to 7 years old: surrender donation starts at $1000.

  • Cats 7-10 years old: surrender requires a minimum of $1500 donation.

  • Senior/geriatric cats (over 10 years old): surrender requires a minimum of $1800 donation.

  • Young pregnant cats: surrender donation starts at $1500.

  • Older pregnant cats are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Those who wish for their cat to be placed into our care but have financial difficulties will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by our directors and will be required to volunteer at the shelter and submit proof of hardship.

Any individual who drops off a cat without permission will be reported to authorities and face criminal charges/fines.

Occasionally, we are able to help with small dogs under 35 lbs, with a minimum donation of $600.

PAWSibilities Animal Rescue knows that every animal needs a home. However, with limited space and facilities, we know the unfortunate reality that we cannot take in every animal. Every shelter does have a maximum capacity. Because of this, we have compiled a list of other shelters in the area that may be able to help. If we can't help you, we encourage you to check with the list of other shelters.
